The Silver Service Club’s holiday this year was taken in wall-to-wall sunshine. The first, and so far the only full week of glorious weather this year was enjoyed by the coach-load of members at Potters Holiday Leisure Resort at Hopton-on-Sea, Norfolk.
With four meals a day on offer, and catered for by charming staff in their own private room, members of the club enjoyed the very best of food.
The suitability of this wonderful holiday venue for our members had been checked out by our excellent holiday organisers, Sue Loftus and Margaret West. Their recommendation was spot-on, and everyone had a great time.
During the days members were engaged in all sorts of sports and activities, with bowling, ten-pin bowling, archery, card-making, swimming, quizzes, and coach-outings to nearby Southwold and Great Yarmouth to name but a few. The loudest laughter coming from the jacuzzi hot tub, was usually from members of the club who threw caution to the wind and wallowed!
Evening entertainment for the week was provided by some of the foremost Big Bands of the country, starting with the RAF Squadronaires and finishing the week with the Syd Lawrence Orchestra, and members were seen bopping the night away till almost midnight!
The week was made particularly special for member Johnny Maxim; the well-known harmonica player. Taking his harmonica with him, he was spotted by the lady booking entertainers and Johnny was requested to play on stage at 12.10am one night! As usual, Johnny, who celebrated his 86th birthday during the week, turned on his professional skills and wowed the audience who shouted for ‘more’!
One of the most frequent comments following the week was ‘I did not want to come home’!
