Our annual Last Night of the Proms concert took place on Saturday, when we were supported by the Holy Family Catholic School Choir, regular visitors to our monthly Praise Meetings. They presented three groups of songs, including music by ABBA, two melodies from ‘Mary Poppins’ and ‘The Lightning Tree’.
Music from the band ranged from Mozart and Grieg to more recent Salvation Army composers such as Eiliv Herikstad and Andrew Mackereth. The Timbrels presented a display to the march ‘Shoeburyness, and the audience joined in enthusiastically with the traditional proms favourites.
As usual, the evening was in aid of the Mayor of Castle Point’s Charity Appeal, and Councillor Andrew Sheldon spoke of his own links with the Corps, before being presented with a commemorative plaque.
