A community celebration took place to mark the end of the Olympics. with heavy leafleting and press announcements before the event and the band and timbrels playing outside the hall on the evening, a good congregation was assured. A packed hall included the territorial commander, Commissioner André Cox and Commissioner Silvia Cox, representatives from THQ and DHQ, including the new divisional commander, Major Norman Ord and Major Margaret Ord.
Songs of Praise Salvation Army style covered the first part of the evening followed by refreshments. Over a hundred people stayed on to watch the Olympics closing ceremony shown on the big screen in the main hall and in other places in the building.
