Bill and Lily Webb were invited to the Silver Service Club. They got a good welcome and wanted to do something to help the club. As keen gardeners they started selling their plants for club funds. This brought them into closer contact with people from the corps and they started attending worship.
Bill had no previous links with the Army, but Lily was dedicated at Leytonstone where her parents took part as soldiers in the corps. Her great-grandfather was a cadet who was called up for military service in World War I from which he never returned, so was not commissioned.
After being welcomed as adherent members by Associate Officer Major Geoff Ashdown, Bill curtailed his somewhat emotive prepared thoughts, but he made it clear how happy they were to be a part of the fellowship.
